Multitrack Audio Recording/Processing

Recording high-quality audio is easier than ever before. Record church services, live events, tracks in a music studio in your basement, your own personal podcast, or whatever you want! Want to record and upload to the Internet? Easy!

Recording. Long gone are the days of ultra-expensive high-end recording equipment. Using a PC or laptop, a bit of hardware to interface between whatever you are recording and the computer, add a little software…and you are in business! The best part of this is that you likely already have a PC or Mac, and some of the software is free!

The hardware is usually pretty reasonably priced. It could be as simple as some cable adapters. For the more “serious” recordings, inexpensive Firewire or USB-based interfaces let you hook up microphones, instruments, or stereo sources to your computer. These devices do all the electronic magic to help make sure your recordings are high-fidelity, have a minimum of hiss/hum, and don’t overload the input of your computer (causing distortion).

For the “way more serious” types, there are nice recording packages available that contain great multi-channel hardware (4 or more channels) that allow you to record some seriously live sound in real-time. The included software has even more features and flexibility than the free stuff. The nice thing is these tools allow you to easily go back and overdub and edit what you have done. The end result is nice. :)

Post Production. What about after the recording is made? What do you do then? Fortunately, those same software tools have the capability to add effects (echo, reverb, EQ adjustment, etc.) and change levels. This can truly make your work take on a real “pro” sound. This process is often called “post production” or “mixdown”. It can seem daunting, but NelsonTek can help you make the difference.

A great example of “post production” is when I was able to improve a marginally intelligible voice recording. The recording had to be transcribed by a stenographer. Parts were very hard to understand. I took the recording, removed as much of the background noise and hiss as I could, and EQ’ed the results to remove boominess in the voices. It sounded great and the stenographer was very happy. It was over 2 hours of conversation!

Putting your work on the Internet. Today you can post something on YouTube and become an overnight sensation. The Internet has revolutionized the transfer of information around the world. Your media creations can now be uploaded to sites like YouTube, or to your company or church web site for access by your clients or congregants. NelsonTek can show you how to do this…and it’s easy!

The great thing about ALL of this is that…it’s easy once we show you how!
